A LITTLE BIT
ABOUT
SHOEMAKER
Shoemaker has been around for almost 100 years, but the same values have always been near and dear to our hearts. Read below to learn about our house's history and values.
OUR VALUES: Our Crest

Our crest symbolizes Shoemaker's emphasis on the joining of love and loyalty for strength and harmony in our home. Each of the seven jewels on our crest represents a valued trait of Shoemaker members. These are the values our members strive to live by each and every day. At Shoemaker, we value:

Compassion, Humility, Sincerity, Truth,
Honor, Integrity, and Understanding.
OUR HISTORY
In the Fall of 1938, our home was founded under the name Twin Pines. Two years later, we received a donation for a women's housing group under Purdue's first Dean of Women, Dean Carolyn Shoemaker. In order to honor Dean Shoemaker's generosity and support, we changed the name of our home to Shoemaker Cooperative. Dean Shoemaker's legacy and efforts to improve Purdue live on today through the name of our home.

Shoemaker has had three homes at three locations since its founding in the Fall of 1938. Even though we have had three houses, our sisterhood bond has remained regardless of which Shoemaker we lived in. Read below to learn about each house.

From 1938 to 1966, our first house was located on the corner of First Street and Russell Street.
1938-1966

Our second home was located on Andrew Place from 1966 to 1993.
1966-1993

In 1994, Shoemaker moved to our current location, 351 Northwestern Avenue.
1994-Present
Three houses, one sisterhood.
